Seizures can occur for many reasons Keith; head trauma, virus,birth injury, brain tumor (Senator Kennedy), extreme fatigue, high fever, or for no identified reason just to name a few. Some, perhaps, may be genetic. The Epilepsy Foundation is currently doing a rather extensive study to see what can be discovered in that realm. Thank you for reminding me---I need to participate. At any rate, back to your question re testing. To my knowledge there is no genetic component yet identified, so testing would yield nothing. There are 5 million people in the U.S. w/ epilepsy and the largest growing # of diagnoses is in the elderly. Well said Mary Lou. I just wonder whether this condition is genetic and that knowing what we now know about inheritance, we should not council people with such ailments to be screened before they have children. What do you think? Poor John Travolta's recent tragic loss comes to mind. |
