Seizures in the Headlines 1/20/2009 8:15:54 PM
Can this be a turning point in understanding and compassion? On this, the most important day I can remember in MY lifetime as a true turning point for our country, news is made not only by a remarkable transition of political power and the tremendous accomplishment of Barack Obama; but by the fact Ted Kennedy had a seizure at the celebratory luncheon. Oh my God. Surely, many of the politicians in the room had never SEEN a seizure, much less seen a person they respect and admire, having one. No doubt many hearts were beating wildly, and undoubtedly, there was a lingering sober feeling that colored an otherwise glorious day. I applaud the courage of Senator Kennedy, and I hope that as reported, he will return to work tomorrow. You go Senator and accomplish the health care initiatives you have fought so hard for, for so long! Perhaps, along the way, you will educate others that people who have seizures are no different from anyone else.They do not deserve to be stigmatized, feared, or avoided. They come in all shapes and sizes, from a variety of educational, ethnic, and financial backgrounds. Justice Roberts, Jett Travolta, Senator Ted Kennedy, and the list goes on..............
