Good for you Suzen. This subject has bothered me for a long time. I wonder what happend to "Charity begins at home"? With the economy leading us straight into a depression it will only get worse. I think about the children, adults of all ages especially the elderly and then I see some Hollywood big name sporting jewels fit for a queen and in my own town women dressed to the nines having their hair and nails done every week, going to the spas, etc., and it makes me sick. I have friends who own a restaurant and the amount of food they throw away each night at closing time would make anyone ill. The same goes for supermarkets and the food that's tossed is behind locked fences so nobody can get to it. I could go on and on but won't. Thank you for your blog. I like Linda's comment. She brought up so many good points.

I'm so happy that you addressed this subject! I agree with so much of what you state; and believe that we should always help whomever needs it..regardless of where...HOWEVER...when I see the hungry and needy children right here in our own back yards...I just cringe with shame!! I have traveled all over much of the US, and am struck by the poverty that is right in our noses! I noticed in the south, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, etc...some of the most horrid poverty...shanties like you see in movies...but these are real!!! bare threads, no shoes on the well worn feet...loss of teeth on babies! swollen bellies like in third world countries!!! This was what I saw in so many places...mainly black children....however...in other areas...I saw many little white children in the same and/or worse conditions.. in the Appalachians, Kentucky, Georgia, the Carolina's and more... same types of shanties...just horrible conditions...same swollen little bodies, no teeth, starving and NONE OF THEM NEGLECTED!!! these children are loved and cared for as well as possible..under the circumstances... there are no jobs, no food, no housing, no money, no dental and/or medical.... and it's so sad.... I've seen children in the Barrio's in various communities all over the US, and so... it seems that all children in America are in the same/worse condition as those in these third world countries!!!! White, Brown, Yellow, Black, and multicultural.... We are all the same...loved by God..and yet...few organizations are specific to their needs.... I favor FEED THE CHILDREN because I've never seen as much food and medical GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHILDREN right here in our own states!! (they also feed hungry in other countries).. I also love ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL because they concentrate on helping all children FREE...regardless of circumstance.... and Now they are all hurting as well because economic times are struggling everywhere...and people can't "give" as much or at all... I can't afford much...but I make it a point to send even tiny donations monthly to these two agencies...because I KNOW the food and meds go to the right places... HOME... Nope, not delusional at all, Suzen, spot on TRUTH. When other countries are in trouble, who do they turn to first? U.S. When we're in trouble, who gives a rip? Hear what you're saying. With the economy the way it is, we need to be taking care of our own instead of the rest of the world: Veterans and children on the streets, not to mention thousands more of hardworking, average Joes and Janes headed that way if something isn't done HERE AT HOME. Rant on, no complaints from me!!!!
