Thank you for the comment, Peter. A well thought out and scripted one. I take slight exception to your first paragraph. Comparing the ISIS thrust to that of Hitler's take over of Europe. Agree we should have moved sooner to stop that, however Hitler's move to take over Europe was well trained and armed with storm troopers, many aircraft; bombers, fighters; a fleet of submarines etc. Germany was then a danger to our country. ISIS is a rag tag army, without aircraft, aircraft carriers and submarines like that used by Hitler's Germany, 1933 to 1941 during the purge in Europe.
My point is that this country is not in immediate or imminent danger from an assault by ISIS. So, use the money allocated to "fight" ISIS for securing our, seaports, airports and border to keep ISIS factions out of this country and find the ones here and deport or jail them.
The US sat by and watched Hitler take over Europe from 1933 to 1941 before the world was so encased in evil that we had to rise to the occasion. And yes, we were stuck in the last agonizing years of the Great Depression as we are now stuck in a residual Great Recession.
History is clearly repeating itself in the Middle East. The US is trapped into spending money over there while needing to spend money over here. Something's gotta give.
Also, the US can't do anything simply, as the terrorists do. It seems that all US domestic programs are rife with corruption and political savagery. There's no comfortable feeling that any of our tax dollars are not wasted on self interest. Plus, the NSA is so over the top right now that every citizen is in its crosshairs.
Congress is so dysfunctional with political head-butting that even basic legislation on immigration can't get through. American politics has become more about what's in it for the politician, not the People. This yields an impossible stalemate on getting anything done. It always takes a cataclysmic tragedy to move the deadwood in Washington DC.
Regarding the wars abroad now, I think we are converting to high-tech wars with drones and aircraft doing all the dirty work. No more boots on the ground.
The only step forward is to vote your conscience this November, less than two months away. I recommend that everyone use Absentee Ballots to avoid the toil of going to the polls. There should be no excuse in implementing some significant political change for the better this time around.
