The amount of money that has been spent in Iraq is shameful, unnecessary and stupid. The US cannot do anything simple. There are always so many procedures to satisfy that it takes too may dollars of procedure just to apply one dollar of aid to the Iraqis. Clearly, US taxpayer dollars have been colossally wasted in Iraq to fight ISIS to no avail.
Yes, we should improve our infrastructure for ourselves, as well as the security in our ports and shores against ISIS. Despite the fact that ISIS does not have ships and an invasion force to hit our beaches, they are still a threat in terms of their terrorist tactics of flying planes into buildings or the like - perhaps an even more effective tactic than hitting our beaches. The same could be said for blowing up oil tankers in our harbors and creating an environmental disaster. The point is that ISIS as an invasion threat will not use text book tactics, but ones that evade all reason and logic. That's why they are even more of a threat to our shores.
Under current political and military mentality in Washington DC, the priority is to take the fight to ISIS as opposed to having ISIS take the fight to us here at home. We can only hope that Homeland Security and the US Coast Guard are on high alert to pick up the slack regarding security of our ports and shores. As for improving infrastructure, that seems to be a pork barrel issue in every state. There seems to be no national agenda to improving our infrastructure as a whole.
