Thanks to all for the info. You guys must be loaded. I am just a poor struggling working stiff that writes in his free time. I am sure BookSurge is a great place, but I don't think I can handle the prices.

Bill Flynn is correct. We have used several different companies and BookSurge is without a doubt the best we have used. I can't imagine how the person spent $4500 on BookSurge. I have five books with BookSurge and the most expensive cost me $799 for everything except writing the book, which I did gladly. I got a lot of free books, a wonderful, creative and hard working design team, with perfect format. Call Allison Brown and she will explain everything BookSurge has to offer. By the way, there is a much cheaper route to go with BookSurge, but we chose the TDF, (Total Design Freedom) You can see my covers on Amazon, BookSurge or here on this site by going to my profile. My son has his own published books and he too has chosen as I did.

There's really NOTHING to be frightening about. You just create your manuscript first in MSWord, and then when you upload your MSWord doc of the book to lulu, lulu will CONVERT instantly to a printable format for you. It's as simple as that!

Just go ahead and write your book first, we'll worry about everything else later.

Worry only one thing at a time, and not the whole thing. In time you will find out you've got nothing to worry about.

Ok... opposite of Walker Joe's.... I just did my first LULU...and... Bonnie MayI had to do EVERYTHING for me! I just could not figure anything out! duh! Not the formatting, not the covers, not downloading..proofing, etc... I just wanted to quit..but I'm not a quitter! Bonnie was sick as a dog and kept working it, nudging me forward...however...I am pleased with the end result..altho much work ahead and that frightens me too! Walker Joe and Bonnie have published many books with Lulu...so they know the ropes by now...it's the beginners like you and I..the ones who have no clue who or what or how... I don't know if I'll do it again...but I'm thinking I can do a couple of short books on "Promoting" etc... just to get the hang of it! Good luck my friend...I have a good publisher as well...and waiting before I decide on continuing with them on the book that is already accepted with them... Easier but Costly too... choices! Hello Terry. I have pubbed 15 books at Lulu. I didn't find formatting to be a big problem, and I designed nearly all of my covers, which also isn't too difficult, but I used a couple of their covers. My Lulu books are MS-Doc. Man you can do it. Red beans and ricely...
