Good Blog, Terry. I am just beginning to scroll through the AD site and see who and what is being written about and yours is one of the first names I have follwed through several sections of the site- First on your comments about Amazon ranking, then on your AD den. I was interested why you would have such a negative stance against self publishing when so many authors have begun their careers that way?

I agree with all.
However most especially not to give them the time of day to discuss their perhaps ill minded review at that. I do not know about this bad review but just a big delete or keep is the utmost decision.
Sometimes one can notice that persons may just practically repeat what someone else said in the prior reviews and makes you wonder did they really read your work in the first place.
I do think the purpose of the site is to help inspire and uplift the other. As we know at times ones can be out with their sharp claws just waiting to dig in.

Yes, you are both correct. I believe a bad review is better than "none", as long as it is constructive and does not take personal liberties. We revel in the joy of writing. It is hard work, but when you love the work, it's not a drudge. The hard part comes after publication and we have to get out and work like hell to sell or "hawk our wares" like a vendor. The old adage "Life imitates art". Well, sometimes it would be nice if "art imitates life!" LOL. Thank you both for commenting.
I think we just have differentiate what is a constructive review, and what is a trouble-maker meaningless review.
The latter is not worth be mentioned about, and we should not even give them the time they deserve to even talk about them.
I know someone has made a non-constructive bad review to you recently; and it this person persists in giving you meaningless bad reviews, just take the matter to Matt and the AD's support team. Some who would leave bad reviews and think that whatever they say is okay, the person will delete it anyway, and sometimes I do get bad reviews and I resent deleting them afterward.
I think it is much better to leave the bad reviews on and let the person read it hiimself/herself on another day, that person might even discover how non-constructive he/she might have been to another.

Great blog! I had a "devastating" review the first year I was at AD and I almost gave up! I found out we can delete them or refuse to reply to their acidic remarks and shake off the toxic words...
and write again! "As Iron Sharpens Iron" is an article I wrote on how best to handle harsh criticism.
Reviews are just that, reviews. The important things is we enjoy the craft and if readers enjoy what we write, that's the bonus. Can't please all!
