Regis, I love this tender revealing story about your grandmother's smoking habit. My mom is 93, and your story reminds me of how she has become very assertive when she wants something these days. Although I must admit that at times, in the right place, under the right circumstances, it has been a little embarrassing. My mom, throughout her life has been one of the most diplomatic, kind hearted persons you could ever be privileged to meet. Not an unkind word about anyone. In the last five years, that has changed. I am sure that it is due to aging and early dementia. At times it is amusing, and at times it is, embarrassing. It makes no difference, I love her with all my heart and always shall. Crystal really knows how towrite a story. Think of this as a novel. That would be really great.

Anyway Reg and Crystal this dedication is 100% from the heart for the fondness of her grandmother. This is a wonderful tribute to her.

My grandma Dolly never smoked, and neither did anyone in her family. My maternal grandmother never smoked either, or my aunt Hazel, but my mother and uncles did.

My mom smoked for 50 years. I see lots of similar adventures we had in this excellent narrative. Your daughter did well. Patrick. Ps We finally got here to quit using the patch.

A Winner. I hope she submitted it to the Victoria Times. They love pieces like this one and it is well written. I worked in a care facility in Victoria a while back and so could see quite vividly every detain she brought forward. Well done. J'nia

Regis, that was priceless!! Her attitude is what keeeps her living a nice old age. I have a beloved 93 yr-old mom-in-law who doesn't smoke but is like your Grandma, in that she gets what she wants any way she can and doesn't cowtow to anyone--which explains her old age--although in real years, she is more like 73 and can run circles around me-what I wouldn't give for her energy!! Like you, I try to get her to write down her past so she leaves some kind of legacy as she is a woman who only comes along once in every generation.

Hi Regis,

I enjoyed this story about your grandmother very much! I was able to envision the way she may have looked as she wheeled herself through the doors of the movie theater to have a smoke. Also, I can sense warmth and love as I read your story. I love the way you described how she smiled and took your hand when you picked her up that day to go to the movies. My favorite part of the story was how you described her favorite foods and how she disliked the color green. It is a lovely snap shot of your grandmother. Excellent!
