Boston MA. November 2010: In the wake of the ultra-successful superhero films ‘Narc’ and ‘Shortcut to happiness’, producer Michael Z. Gordon has announced plans to push the hyper-realistic ‘Ghostman’ thriller into production in Boston, November 2010. Written and directed by Mike O’Dea, the director is challenging Ben Affleck to his ‘King of Boston’ crown.
Gordon said, “The Ghostman script appealed to me because it’s much more than an anti-superhero film, it’s a character piece with a gut-wrenching tragic love story. I think it will make for a popular date move with something for both men and women to enjoy and talk about after.”
Filmed in documentary style, Ghostman’ will mark the first superhero film to be shot on a low budget. Gordon’s My Own Worst Enemy Productions will fund 50% of the project to be co-directed, and star the multi-talented Mike O’Dea, well-known for his ‘No-budget’ crime drama ‘Townies’.
‘Townies’ began production in 2007 after advice was given to O’Dea by Harvey Keitel, who came into prominence in Scorsese’s early films, to shoot the movie on his own. ‘Townies’ was shut down after a gun firing incident in Charleston, MA when O’Dea neglected to acquire a gun shooting permit for the film, that left local residents screaming for Help!.
Gordon said he heard the news on CNN that O’Dea had landed in Court and the production of ‘Townies’ had been shut down. He immediately signed a deal with O’Dea to finance the re-shoot on a respectable budget. O’Dea added, “Shortly after, Ben Affleck announced the production of a similarly titled movie ‘The Town'. I heard that Affleck had plans to film in the same one-square-mile neighbourhood in Boston as ‘Townies’.” Unable to compete with Affleck, Gordon and O’Dea were forced to change the name of the movie to ‘Code of Silence’ and move the film location to another area of Boston.
O’Dea said, “Rumors began to circulate that Affleck had read the ‘Townies’ script on a golf course weeks prior to announcing the production of ‘The Town’. I don’t know if Affleck read my script ‘Townies’ or not. Nobody wants to believe a superstar like Ben Affleck would lift an idea from another writer-director. ‘The Town’ is a book-to-film adaptation so the story was obviously published earlier than the filming of ‘Townies’, but none of that matters because Affleck will be handing over his ‘King of Boston’ crown to me once ‘Ghostman’ and ‘Code of Silence’ are released in theatres in 2011.”
Starring Mike O’Dea as Danny, Sharon Stone as Karen the cop-hating mom, the production of ‘Ghostman’ is set to rock audiences with Meat Loaf taking on the role of Gilly for this action-packed thriller.
