What a great read! This book combines mystery & suspense, with Chinese history, romance, holistic medicine, and principles of longevity. For someone like me who isinterested in "all of the above", it was fun to read, and it seemed that I reached much too quickly the end of the 424
pages!
The authors, being physicians, were able to blend ininformation on medicine and medical research that informed at the same time that it contributed to the whole of the story.The setting in China gives the reader a chance to "travel" inside China at the time of the events leading up to the Tiananmen Square massacre, and also with some forays into the past where we even get a chance to meet Mao Zedung.
Reading this book not only entertains, but also gives one a participant's perspective on the events that took place in China not only during the 1989 student democracy movement in China, but prior to that time as well. It was educational,yet kept me riveted to the edge of my seat wanting the "good
guys" to win.
A Chinese fortune-teller, upon the heroine's arrival into China, predicts that her worst enemy would present himself like a close ally... And that seems to apply to everyone she meets... The challenge was sometimes not knowing, along with the heroine, who were the good guys.
This inside view of China is a treat for those of us (most of us I might say) who have never been to China. Plus, we are shown an "insider's" view of China, not the China that is seen by the tourists on a guided tour (of which we meet a few in the course of this story).
After reading this story, I realized that I sped through it(always wanting to know "what happens next"). A great book to take along on a weekend getaway, or simply to read at home and turn your home into a getaway for the length of the
reading.
