Some adopted children, of all ages, can develop special problems that will confuse, mystify or even frighten parents and siblings. These children do not see the world as we do. Their view of the world has been marred by difficulties in their early years, living in different foster homes, failed adoptions, having many various caregivers, experiencing abuse and an entire list of what can go wrong in childhood. They usually don't have an enormous amount of trust for their new parents and don't know how to give and receive love. They are very suspicious of their surroundings. Unknowing parents can try many different solutions without much success. A lot of these symptoms the children develop come under the heading of RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder). This requires specialized treatment by professionals who are experts at RAD.
