In 2005, my wife and I, along with another couple, were on a driving tour of Minnesota. My wife wanted to visit Itasca State Park, since that is where the Mississippi River begins. When we arrived at the park, there was a downpour. However, our spirits could not be subdued, so we got out the one small umbrella that was in the car and walked down to where the Mississippi River begins trickling out of Lake Itasca. There are stepping stones where one can easily walk the short distance across the river. What a thrill it was to participate in this seemingly spiritual experience, and I shall never forget it.
Later, I wrote a poem about my time there at Itasca State Park. The title is "So Little Time." My wife tells me it is her favorite of all my poems.
In 2015, on a whim, I emailed a copy of my poem to the Itasca State Park Visitors Center. Soon, they replied, asking if they could display it in the Visitors Center in 2016, during their 125th anniversary celebration of the park. I was filled with joy beyond measure.
