September 6 to 9, 2012 Star Island Isle of Shoals, NH   2012 Writers in the Round Retreat on Star Island  FYI General Registration ends Aug. 15…a multi-day creative retreat for songwriters and poets in a beautiful natural setting. The retreat is a time for creative growth in a safe environment, fostered by instructors who are experts in their art, be it songwriting, poetry, or spoken word, and who are whole-souled in their approach to life.

The Portable Pantry at 12 Hanson St. in Rochester has graciously invited us to continue there.The opening feature will be Jon Shutt. Jon is a veteran of the Iraqi and Afghaninstan wars, and has published his first book of poetry, Red Dawn, which is a raw, edgy and deeply personal expression of his experiences. Those of you who have heard Jon's work know his talent. Those of you who have not yet heard him should not miss this event. Jon will have books available, and donates his profits to the USO.Sign-ups for the open mic begin at 6 and will end promptly at 6:15, on a first-come, first served basis. Due to the number of sign-ups we've had in the past, you have to be present to sign up. The restaurant will not take names ahead of time, and space is limited.Our feature begins at 6:15, after which we will have a quick break followed by the open mic portion of the program. All writers are encouraged to perform their original work of poetry, prose, or music. There is a strict limit of 5 minutes per participant. Come early and enjoy some of Susan's great food. You can also BYO to enjoy (responsibly!)

Hold me against the dark: I am afraid.
