July9 Portland PortVeritas Indy Slam Champ Finals. Bull Feeney’s 375 Fore St. 7-10pm / All Ages/ $3 (2 for $5) ($10 buy in for last chance bout) One- round winner- takes -all bout. First place in that round will be eligible to compete in the slam finals later that night. 8 poets, 3 rounds, 1 winner. Eight poets will compete to be the sole representative of Port Veritas at the 2013 Individual World Poetry Slam in Fayetteville, AR. July 18th Effingham at 7 pm Writers’ Night at the Effingham Public Library features Author/ Illustrator Lisa Greenleaf and Music by Middle Ground with Peter Heimlich and Cindy Duchin. As the old man walked along the beach at dawn,
he noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish
and flinging them into to the sea.
Finally catching up with the youth, he asked why he was doing this.
The answer was that the stranded would die
if left until the morning sun.
“But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions of starfish,”
countered the other. “How can your effort make any difference?“
The young man looked at the starfish in his hand
and then threw it tosafety in the waves.
“It makes a difference to this one,” he said.
