Special PSNH Event;
Sept 25 Hampstead NHPoet Laureate Selection Process:PSNH members are invited to attend a special meeting, at 5-5:30pm at BeanTowne Coffee Shop, 201 Route 111 (at Rte 121) in Hampstead. We will announce a “short list” of nominees selected as finalists for consideration and you will have the opportunity to endorse the candidates. Oct1MoultonboroughPoertrey Night Robert Demaree will be the featured reader at the Moultonborough Library Poetry Night on Tuesday, October 1. The program begins at 7:30 p.m., with an Open Mic to follow the featured reader. Priscilla Burlingham, program founder, said, “All are welcome to participate and to listen. Oct 3 Rochester Portable Pantry on Hanson St.Rochester Writer’s Night Featuring Poet John Simon Sign-ups begin at 6 pm, followed by our feature performer. After a short break, the open mic portion of the program begins. Writers are encouraged to perform their original poetry, prose or music to a listening audience. There is a 5 minute limit per participant, with extra rounds if time allows. We usually end by 8PM
October 3, Portsmouth: Bill Bryson will discuss his new book, One Summer: America, 1927, as part of Writers on a New England Stage. Tickets are $13 each and may be purchased through the Music Hall. At 7:30 p.m., Historic Theater, Music Hall.

The midnight gangs assembled and picked a rendezvous for the night
They'll meet `neath that giant exxon sign that brings this fair city light
Man there's an opera out on the turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops, cherry tops, rips this holy night
The streets alive as secret debts are paid
Contacts made, they vanished unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switch-blades hustling for the record machine
The hungry and the hunted explode into rocknroll bands
That face off against each other out in the street down in jungleland

You Will Remember...

You will remember that leaping stream
where sweet aromas rose and trembled,
and sometimes a bird, wearing water
and slowness, its winter feathers.

You will remember those gifts from the earth:
indelible scents, gold clay,
weeds in the thicket and crazy roots,
magical thorns like swords.

You'll remember the bouquet you picked,
shadows and silent water,
bouquet like a foam-covered stone.

That time was like never, and like always.
So we go there, where nothing is waiting;
we find everything waiting there.

The last majority attained,
