Five stars. Great stuff!

Like many series, it helps if you have read Vic Warrens' previous work, like Hong Kong Blues and Inspector Kwong Mysteries, as many characters from those previous books are at least mentioned in The Fog. However its not truly necessary, to understand the plot and still find the main characters Kwong and Matson interesting and enjoyable. I actually loaned this book to a friend who'd never read the first two in the series, and he had it read in about three days, a bit of a record for him.

Anyways, in this enjoyable read, Kwong and Matson travel to San Francisco to meet an old friend, after they're told to take a vacation when things go wrong in Hong Kong. As is common in mysteries, this turns out to be a busman's holiday and they have to investigate the foggy streets of the city trying to help a former lover and other crimes. Everything is cleverly woven together, so giving away details will give away the story, but suffice it to say, it was an enjoyable, quick read that kept me guessing the entire time.
