Across the pond explores all of the aspects of teenage life and the trials and tribulations surrounding it.
Readers of all ages will fall in love with Brit and Fred, the long distance love sparking affair between two teenagers who discover that living life on opposite sides of the world really isn't that much different that their own.
My 14 year old daughter picked this book out to read, and left it laying out half read one day. I picked up the book and finished it in just a few hours--I couldn't put it down. It will tug at your heart strings and rekindle those old feelings of teenage love, strong willed relationships and deep well kept secrets.
The perfect read for any age and the perfect gift for the teen or the teen at heart this Holiday season!

From the first page, this book had my interest. It's well written, sharing a young man's internal dialogue as well as what's going on around him.
It helps that he's a very likable character, and his humor is not only laugh-out-loud funny at times, it's also very touching. He's clever. Between the characterization and the well-paced plot, this book never becomes tedious.
Since I travel from the States to the UK regularly, I was fascinated by the lead character's views as he traveled from the UK to the US. For American readers who grew up with the Harry Potter series, this book will be especially interesting. It shows the cultural differences on both sides.
This young adult novel provides wit, humor and a little romance. It's well paced and doesn't talk down to the readers.
Parents and other adults will enjoy this book as well. For me, it was a page turner, and a light, fun, fast read. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Once I picked up this book, I could not put it down. In fact, I stayed up the entire night just so that I could finish reading it!
After his parents win a "Dream Holiday for Two to Australia", fifteen year old Fred is given the choice of either taking a trip to visit his parents' friends family in America or his grandparents in Scotland. Fred opts to take the trip "across the pond".
Upon arriving, Fred meets his parents' friend, Phil, and Phil's daughter, Brit. After a few minutes of conversing with Brit, it's obvious that Fred has an attraction for her. However, her feelings appear to be mutual!
Brit develops trust in Fred and confides something that she's been hiding from everybody. Upset, Fred promises her that he will handle the matters for her.
This was a very good read that involved: analyzing language and cultural differences (England vs the US), young romance, bullies, and baseball! The characters were clearly developed and believable. The end of the book beckons for a sequel. I hope that we can read more about the adventures of Fred and Brit!
