Los Angeles, CA- With a Pulitzer nominated book under his belt, and a highly anticipated sophomore release slated for release next month, Terry Angel Mason is regarded as one of the most prolific and influential writers of our time.
The esteemed author, HIV/AIDS advocate and civil rights icon will be a special guest on Fox Channel 5’s morning show on February 7th, and will be speaking about HIV/AIDS in the African community; an ongoing battle Mason knows too well. A survivor of full-blown AIDS, Mason is an internationally renowned HIV/AIDS advocate who recently made headlines after being named the spokesperson for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day for 2012.
According to Mason, “HIV/AIDS is having a devastating impact on African Americans, and in spite of educational programs and HIV/AIDS campaigns, HIV/AIDS continues to grow at alarming rates. Many people are dying because of ignorance. My goal is to change that, and to help save lives.”
According to the Dept. of Health Education & Promotions, African American men make up 40% of the new AIDS cases among males, and African American women represent 62% of the new AIDS cases reported among females. “With each passing year, we loose more people to HIV/AIDS, and I won’t stop fighting until we win the war,” says Mason.
Best known for his memorable collection of writings, Love Won’t Let Me Be Silent, and his thought-provoking commentaries, Mason’s work inspires, educates and empowers millions around the world.
Angel is the recipient of several distinguished awards, including a Certificate of Commendation from Ron Roberts, the chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, the San Diego KFMB Channel 8 Cares Award and has been named by the National Urban League as a national success story.
The San Diego mayor is also issuing a special proclamation of commendation in honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, and for the extraordinary achievements Mason has made in his community and as a HIV/AIDS activist.
