I read this book with my 7-year old daughter. She thought "it was great because it was very funny". It certainly is a funny book. There are several laugh-out-loud passages and the illustrations fit the story perfectly. Football is Fantastic is a relatively easy read that should suit kids through the early years in school. As a grown-up I liked the fact that the author did not shy away from using "challenging" words in places. This may have been easy to avoid, but as it is the book works at several different levels. It entertains and engages a younger audience but also stretches more confident readers a little, which is great. Finally, the story illustrates perfectly why kids should not bring toys into school, a theme I think many parents will be familiar with. I would recommend this book to anyone with kids in the right age group, football (soccer) fanatics or not.
