An excellent exploration of U.S. Navy bombing squadrons. His sentiments, which are central to his writing's straightforward elegance and his mastery of a mountain of detail, are eloquently encapsulated in his forward and perfectly explain the power of this exceptional work. Carey doesn't just list squadrons but rather gives life to the men who comprised them. He paints a vivid portrait of tremendous night attacks and endless patrols over forbidding stretches of ocean, of bombing runs at dawn and breathtaking air battles as warships explode far below, of fiery crashes and unexplained disappearances.
