What is Boomer Lit? The premise is simple.  Seventy-eight million Americans are "baby boomers" born between 1946 and 1964.  They have always been a prime target for marketers.  Now most of the boomers are over 50.  They are retiring, starting second careers, re-examining relationships and looking for new interests.  They grew up with books as entertainment, rather than cable television or computers, so many are avid readers.  And they're eager to read about people who are facing the same challenges and life decisions as themselves.

Claude Nougat, author of the Boomer novel A Hook in the Sky, is the initiator and foremost proponent of Boomer Lit. She popularized the term through groups in the Kindle Forums and on Goodreads.  Nougat also established a Facebook page and Twitter account where Boomer authors could discuss and promote their work. High-traffic websites—including The Passive Voice, The Kindle Nation Daily, Digital Book Today, Gawker Media, and Venture Galleries—picked up the discussion, and Boomer Lit started to become a national phenomenon.

“Boomer Lit is not about nostalgia and evoking the past,” Nougat explains. “Like YA lit focused on the first transition to adulthood, Boomer Lit is about the next big transition.” Boomer Lit encompasses novels, short stories, memoirs, poetry, self-help books, humor, and more, but it is always about transition to "the third stage of life."
