Murder and mayhem all over works of art? Well, it does happen and priceless artworks are often the target of money-hungry thieves. Blood splattered all over a upscale art gallery was certainly more than Tom Adams, an ordinary waiter who was slowly working his way from the bottom up, expected when he walked into the Creighton American Collection of Art and discovered its curator and founder, Mr. Creighton, bludgeoned to death. All Tom wanted was an assessment on a painting that he had discovered behind the drywall of a house he was renovating. What he found was a dead man and blood everywhere.
Tom's painting, if it turned out to be what Mr. Creighton had suggested it might be when they had talked earlier on the phone, would be the means for Tom to improve his lot in life and follow his dream to own his own restaurant. In the confusion of the investigation immediately following the murder, Tom's painting disappears as well as a painting that had hung in Mr. Creighton's office. The Creighton murder would have been enough of a mystery to solve, but there were other evil doings at play, more murders and art thefts, all including powerful people, both in government, in royalty and in the mob. To add complexity to the case, Tom is accused of the murder and browbeaten severely by the arresting cop.
Mr. John A. MacEachern has written an exciting murder mystery in The Blood of Art. After a slow beginning, this turned out to be a real page turner with multiple back stories and plot lines interwoven with excellent descriptive passages. A great read!
