Finally the segment taped in February with Today Tonight made it to the small screen
I received a call from the producers of Today Tonight today advising me that the segment on Lying that I was part of would be screened on Friday 22 April at 6.30 pm on Channel 7 in Australia.
I was extremely nervous about seeing myself on the small screen, wondering how much they would cut and just which words they would choose to include and in what context. My only consolation was that any press is good press, and if they included the film they took of the book, I would be smiling :)
Unfortunately the book wasn't to be seen, nor was there any mention of it. Amongst a number of people questioned on lying, my small part ended up with the most words spoken by a person interviewed, with the exception of the two experts. I can't fathom why they bothered to use my name as none of the others interviewed were named that I recall, with the exception of the two experts (who I might add were introduced by explaining what their areas of expertise were).
There was a part of my appearance where I was talking and they cut me out and replaced me with a woman who, at first glance, could have been me. She was sitting at a desk with a window with a view, dialling a phone number and then speaking to a woman who told her she was the wife of the man the woman dialling was trying to speak to. Next shot showed her with her face in her hands, in dismay. This made me angry because it wasn't me although I was the one relating the story. I would love to have a desk in front of a window with a view but sadly, my desk faces a wall in my study.
Ah well, after all it was a story on lying and according to the 'experts' everyone lies every day. So why would Today Tonight be any different? The only reason I agreed to be part of the segment was for promo for the book. I was told the book would be promoted, that this segment was a chance for me to do that. The fact that I had all my friends and others watching and now I have egg on my face doesn't matter to anyone but me. So off I go to work this morning waiting for everyone to pounce and ask why the book wasn't mentioned.
I would appreciate it if all my friends could do me a really big favour by ringing or visiting their local bookstore to ask if the book will be stocked by them.
