This brief volume explains the development of what we call ideology today, from the ideologie or “science of ideas” of the Ideologues in France, to the materialistic ideology adopted by Thomas Jefferson at his college and called “idiotology” by his friend John Adams. A man is deemed prudent when he changes his clothes to suit the weather, but he used to be deemed a hypocrite when changes his ideology to suit the occasion. But ideologies are not so important today and are interchangeable between parties over time. Partisanship is now in vogue, the very thing some founders warned us about. Today it is the party many people have faith in, and they may go so far as to worship its leader as a god, clinging to him come hell or high water, no matter the facts or his character and expertise.
