The original title for this article was “Farewell and Thanks for All the Love.” I had decided to shut down my site at AuthorDen in order to concentrate more fully on the development of several neglected projects, both online and off.
So why did the title and theme of the article change? Because: 1) an anonymous gift of sponsorship; 2) counsel from literary peers; and 3) ongoing positive responses to work on the site. These all convinced me to keep the Black Skylark Z-Ped Music Player pumping as loudly as possible for as long as possible.
The surprise sponsorship was truly a big surprise. I hope the generous soul who bestowed it reads these words and accepts my sincere gratitude.
I would also like to express my gratitude to the entire AuthorsDen community of readers and writers who have helped make the past year such a very special one. In times of such traumatic world disasters as those experienced in 2005, it was and is a very good thing to have a sense of connectedness with the larger literary community.
Among the more compelling reasons to keep the site open is to at least attempt some form of completion of the various projects started on it. These include the CREATIVE CONVERSATIN’ Interview Series and the more recently established VISIONS OF THE POETS series. I am particularly encouraged by the vigorous response to Part 1 of the latter, which features an extended meditation on the work of the extraordinary poet Andre Emmanuel Bendavi ben-YEHU.
The VISIONS OF THE POETS series, as should become clear with the second installment in a week or so, is one in which I hope and plan to do more than simply profile individual poets. The intent is to explore different facets of poets’ work and lives, and to extract from those explorations an increased appreciation for what poets endeavor to give the world––inspiration, insight, courage, love, knowledge, empowerment––through their time-honored art. I hope to provide at least some of the same through my own labors on this site.
