I've finally begun writing the sequel to Miyoko's Will, a Historical Fiction
novel of approximately 88,000 words. Miyoko's Will is the saga of the
Akiyama/Reed Families. It begins at the end of World War II and ends in the
summer of 1995. It's a coming of age story about Tyler Reed, whose
Japanese grandfather volunteered as a Kamikaze pilot. His death and Little
Boy's devastating visit to Hiroshima leads Tomoko to flee to San Francisco
when she turns 18 to escape her overprotective mother, Setsuko, who
suffers from post-traumaic stress disorder. In San Francisco, she meets and
marries Lincoln Reed. They have a child, Tyler. They relocate to Ft.
Lauderdale to improve Miyoko's fragile health. Her death, and the
handwritten instructions she leaves in her Will, takes Tyler and Setsuko to
Hiroshima where he discovers his Japanese roots and falls in love with
Tomoko, a family friend. In the sequel, Lincoln flies to Hiroshima to meet
Tomoko and Tyler's granduncle, Isama, who was also a pilot during the War.
