When the smoke cleared at the Benjamin Franklin Awards ceremony, Steve Burt's collection, Odd Lot: Stories to Chill the Heart, had won the silver medal for Best Mystery/Suspense Book of 2001. The awards are presented annually by the Publishers Marketing Association.
Burt's book straddles two genres, horror and mystery, and contains nine short ghost tales and psychic mysteries. Six of the nine have already been named Honorable Mentions in past volumes of Year's Best Fantasy & Horror. Burt is a member of Horror Writers Association, Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters in Crime. Another of his books, A Christmas Dozen: Christmas Stories to Warm the Heart, is a finalist for Best Audio Fiction of the Year, sponsored by ForeWord Magazine.
