Oklahoma author shows that he can move from demonic dismemberments to romantic romps.
Known for his tales of the macabre, Oklahoma author Steven E. Wedel recently took third place in the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc.'s annual contest. But, his win came in the historical romance category.
"Most stories have an element of romance, particularly at the novel level," Wedel said. "The only real difference between a horror novel and a romance is the focus. Particularly in this book."
The book in question is an unfinished work entitled Heart of the Wolf. Wedel described it as a paranormal historical romance.
"It involves werewolves," he said. "In fact, the lead male is the same lead male from my chapbook Call to the Hunt and the horror novel, Shara, that I'm marketing right now. He's just going by another name in this book."
The character isn't the only one using a different name. Wedel said that, if Heart of the Wolf ever sees print, it will be under a pseudonym.
This isn't Wedel's first win in OWFI's historical romance novel category. He took home third place in 2001 with a Viking romance called Bold Bounty.
"That was a lot of fun," Wedel said. "I heard several murmurs of 'A man?' when my name was announced."
