Production wheels are turning on my first book, "A View from the Hills."
I'm working with Outskirts Press. After considerable research and visiting with folks who have published with them, I decided to roll the dice and go with Outskirts. What I've seen of their work is good, and it looks as though they pay attention to detail. I've got a good author representative who's working with me.
We've taken care of the pre-production work. Even have a cover photo for it that, if worse comes to worse, can be used on scarecrows or to frighten small children and animals. Now it's in the incubation period, and as soon as I know when its birthday is, I'll let everyone know.
The book is a collection of my newspaper columns, some from early years, some from more recent columns. Some are funny, some are serious, some are about people, some are nostalgic, and some will make you say "Huh?" (The bad thing is in working on the book, I found myself getting nostalgic for the days when I was writing the columns being nostalgic about even earlier days.) Some of them have appeared at my site at Authors Den if you'd like a preview.
A lot of the folks here at Authors Den, have provided considerable amounts of inspiration, support, encoragement and friendship that have helped me move forward with this project that had been on high center for a while. Even if you didn't realize it, and even though my work and the genre are different from yours, you all have been a big help. Thank you so very much.
This is my first, and -- at least in my mind -- it's not the last. I've still got a load of other columns to go through, and I've got ideas for other projects, non-fiction and fiction. So, don't be surprised if I come, hat in hand, with questions sometime.
