I called up an old girlfriend yesterday. I keep trying to get her to go on America's Got Talent and do her, Tina Turner Proud Mary routine. She's that good at her age and not slowing down, continually doing shows in the Houston area from back in the time when we danced together before I was unable to walk.
She told me that she took her father, who I know only as Mr. Hamilton, a very mild-mannered man, to Delta Downs in Louisiana three weeks ago to gamble. After pushing the slot machine button seven times, he hit the jackpot and told her that it was time that they go home with their winnings. She convinced him to stay a while longer while she wasted some of the winnings.
She says that he is hard to keep up with while walking. During his recent birthday party at 106 at the senior center where he goes, a congressman came to help him celebrate.
She also told me that she now has a total of 68 grandchildren and great-grandchildren (from her six kids). Makes me wonder how many great-great-grandchildren her father has.
Mr. Hamilton is certainly a winner in the lottery of life.
