Writer/director Fletcher Rhoden's satirical six-minute short subject, THE CHRISTOPHER WALKEN ECSTATIC DANCE ACADEMY, wins three honorable mentions in the ninth annual Denver International World Cinema Independent Fall Film Festival. The mentions were for best short subject and one for each of the lead actors, Quinton Flynn and Robbie "The Brady Bunch" Rist.
"What will Laurel and Stanley find at the ecstatic dance academy of the famed actor, Christopher Walken?"
Movie buffs and Christopher Walken fans will get the answer at this year's Denver International World Cinema Independent Fall Film Festival.
The satirical short subject, written and directed by Fletcher Rhoden, stars Quinton Flynn as the actor/cult hero, and ex-Brady Buncher Robbie Rist as his hapless student/victim.
The short subject received praise from GOOD TIMES LOS ANGELES, which called it "Hilarious," and said it rivalled "the best work of SNL..."
Rhoden's short subject, shot on digital video, has already been screened at MIFED, Cannes and in New York and Los Angeles film festivals.
Rhoden's previous video release, the dramatic stage play SOUL CANCER (which also stars Rist in a powerhouse performance) was shown in New York and Fort Worth festivals. A broadcast agreement was just renewed with SHORTTV.COM and the tense drama will return to cable and TV stations across the country, where it showed regularly in 2000.
Rhoden's most recent work, THE TRIAL OF DAVY CROCKETT, is a fact-based novella, available from Trafford publishing (www.trafford.com/robots/01-0132.html). The novella, which Rhoden also illustrated, pits Crockett against Santa Anna in a debate over the ideologies of the Texian Revolution after the fall of the Alamo.
Rhoden doesn't mind going from drama to comedy and back, nor crossing over from one format (video/stage) to another (script to prose).
"I've written all kinds of things," Rhoden says, "from feature screenplays in all genres to sitcoms and interactive. As long as I'm writing, I'm happy."
