I was between jobs, as they say, but really, I was just a few years before I could retire, so I still needed to work.  I had accepted a part-time job at a ferry service that took tourists to the Statue of Liberty.  While working the job, I did what I like to do as a hobby, watch birds.  As I scanned tickets and put people on the boat I watched a few blue jays struggle to comprehend the human-made world of the building I worked in.  First I wrote a personal experience, then I changed it into a short story. On Dec. 11, 2017, it was published in The Raven's Perch.  This is the first time I've published in an online literary magazine. TIME TO CELEBRATE!
