Local Award Winning Author, Laura Marie Henion donates time to speak with children about the importance of literacy as well as book publishing and illustration.

Laura will be at North Garnerville Elementary School this April 1st and 3rd to run a workshop and discussion with children grade 1-4.

It is important that children learn to read and a necessity that they continue to improve on their reading skills in order to achieve a better education.

Laura plans on speaking with the children about her love of reading and writing, the book publishing and book illustration process as well as ways the children can explore the world of books.

"I hope to inspire as many children as I can to look at books in a fun and exciting way. Many of them have never met an author. To actually meet one, discuss the book writing process as well as the illustration process should give them an idea of what is involved in creating a work of art. There are numerous aspects in book publishing, from the author, the editor, the cover artist, the publisher, the literary agent and public relations specialist to a publicist. Perhaps by getting an understanding of what is involved in creating a book, they may be motivated to read, to explore the publishing field and perhaps create a work of art in writing, illustation or beyond."
