This third novel by award winning Australian writer John Charalambous breaks new creative ground. Two Greeks is a poignant family drama - though with comedic elements - set in Victoria, Australia in the 1960s and 1970s.
John's book is slated for release in early July and early indications suggest it will be something of a publishing hit down-under. As with John's second book, Click here, (which was long-listed for the prestigious Miles Franklin award) this novel also has an internationalist element given the author's exploration of 20th century Greek history as a back-drop to the lives of several of the main characters. The book also explores the complexity associated with experiences of cultural hybridity - in this case brought about by migration - and is a poignant, moving study of father-son and mother-son relationships in a family under pressure. A must read! John Charalambous is also the author of the novel Click here(short-listed for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, Best First Book) and he currently lives in the city of Bendigo in country Victoria.
