A public presentation for the Bendigo Writers Council entitled ''The Gods Abandon Olympus (for Hollywood)'' will take place at Best/Skillshare Building, 23 St Andrews Avenue, Bendigo, Australia on Monday October 13th, 2014, 7-9pm.
This talk will look at the usefulness of remnant polytheistic elements to modern story-tellers. In particular, so-called extinct deities will be linked to a number of contemporary story arcs and their specific story beats. I'll begin with Jungian interpretations of the phenomenon before moving on to New Science explanations for Jung's ever recurring archetypes (polytheistic deities in disguise). I'll also argue that modern creative writers can't afford to ignore myths, folk and fairy tales and legends.
