A man apparently drowned in a hotel hot tub early Sunday Jan. 21, 2001. The victim was discovered underwater in a room at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel & Casino in Reno at 12:10am.
(Aug.27,2002 Television Interview)-A Las Vegas local man wants hotels to place warning signs next to all jetted tubs. Marvin Naus claims the water coming out of the faucet is too hot. The first question I had was if the water is too hot, why not cool it down? That seems logical. But logic doesn't always play into tragic events, which is exactly what sent Naus on this latest mission. To most people, a jetted-tub in a hotel room is a place to relax. To Naus of Las Vegas, it's much different. "These hotels know they are death traps," he said. The plaintiff attorney that represents Naus, believes they have a case because of the water coming out of the faucet in the hotel room. The water was measured at 125 degrees F. In fact, four hours after the body was found, the temperature was still in the high 90's. "120 is a hot temperature that would require some mixing, but its not hot enough that would cause scalding," said employee from the Southern Nevada Health District. He also said in a public spa or hot tub, like at a apartment complex, the maximum temperature is a 104 degrees F. because permits are issued to these public spas because the body of water is not drained after each use. The Las Vegas health district employee also said in hotel rooms , its up to the occupant to use the jetted tubs however they wish. Naus says thats find as long as everyone knows what they're getting into. Naus is suggesting read a lot like the warnings you see posted at public spas, including things like temperatures, extented exposure and what's safe for pregnant women.
