The Grass Widow is a period piece set in the American Civil War era. The main character is a young woman from Tennessee named, Bethel Erwin. When the war starts nineteen year old Bethel joins her brother and cousin as they steal a ride in a box car for Nashville. Bethel disquises herself as a man named Tandy Scott who starts the soldering experience as a private in the Confederate Army and ends it as an Assistant Surgeon for the Union.
