As most of you who live in a huge city know, the cost of parking in the downtown area can be extremely high. Well this morning I had an 8:30 appointment in Center City (Philly) and my plan was to catch public transportation into town. However, as usual my daughter held me up and I had to drop her off at her summer program and then I jumped on Kelly Drive so that I wouldn't miss my appointment.
Well when I got downtown I rode pass two parking lots that had a $10. early bird special and parked in a lot closer to my destination that had a $15. early bird special if you're in by 9 am. I pulled in at about 8:45.
After taking care of some things and heading back to my car at around 11 I stopped at the booth to pay my $15 and was told that instead of the $15 I owed $24. Then I went ballistic "The sign clearly stated early bird special $15." but what I didn't know is that in fine print I had to stay until after 3pm.
When I refused to pay the $24 because I didn't have it the attendent refused to give me my car keys. By now I'm totally PISSED OFF!!!
I called the police and he ethically had my side but legally couldn't do anything about it. He tried to coax the attendent into cutting me a break to no avail and even stated that most if not all parking lots in the area post early bird signs that state you must leave by a certain time not after a certain time.
Anyway, this bullshit ruined what started out as a good day but God is still good in spite of. Ultimately I paid the $24 but most of it was in nickels, dimes and pennies. I also decided to clean my car out on their property. ;-)
During my entire ride home all I could think about was logging on and letting others know to always read the small print or you may wind up ordering the EARLY BIRD special at your favorite restaurant only to find out your not allowed to sit inside and eat it! :-)
