A local Windsor school recently used four of Jane Buttery's books about the county on a project for a tooney car
Students of John Campbell School chose four books about the county on which to base an art project. They chose If I could go to the Harrow Fair, Mei Ling Discovers Jack Miner, Let's go to Colasanti's and An Unlikely Friendship about Amherstburg in 1846; all the books were written by local author Jane Buttery who believes in writing about places one knows. Jane feels children with experiences of a local fair, the bird sanctuary at Jack Miner's and the greenhouse at Colasanti's, will enjoy reading more about what could happen there. Two are colourful picture books and two books are novels.
Several students painted a small "tooney "car with a map of the county and then placed the site of each book on it. They then made models to go with each book. This was on display at a dinner to honour Alaistair McLeod, a famous author of adult books in Canada.
It was a lovely surprise for the author and quite an honour!Thanks go to the teacher, Diane Fotopoulus and students at John Campbell School.
