Burger was confused at the sensational turnaround at MM Corporation. He knew Kurt Schmidt wanted the corporation destroyed.  Why else would Schmidt have issued posthumous instructions to have so many executives killed? MM was on its last legs. Gretchen comes to the aid of the flailing company. Hans would never second-guess Kurt Schmidt, but now was wondering if Gretchen was doing the right thing. WWKD (What would Kurt do?)

     Before confronting Gretchen, he would confer, secretly, with Kleigman. He and Ludwig were the closest of friends. Hans knew it was dangerous to go behind Fuhrer Gretchen Schmidt’s back, but he must. Something was amiss.  He sensed it.

Burger met Kleigman in a coffee shop at the Great Lakes Mall in Auburn Heights. Hans initiated the conversation.
