Literary Fiction
Editing

Can you guess what the worst part of writing is? If you said editing, you’re right. Editing a manuscript is a nightmare. One day I’ll become a big writer for the sole purpose of NEVER editing my own manuscript. Oh those bright days ahead, I can see them now, when I concentrate on creating story rather than fixing.

The reason I’m ranting about editing is because that is where I’m at with my manuscript. I’ve received my manuscript back from the editor marking all the necessary changes and I’m overwhelmed. I’ve put the manuscript aside for now and am trying to get courage to roll up my sleeves and face the words on the screen to reorganize, reword, delete, add, subtract, multiply, and delete again. Aaaaaah, I can hear the nightmare already!!!! Words are flying all over the page. Damn, it felt good when I initially wrote it.

Aside from the mundane, banal, fix this and that, there’s the problem of deleting scenes that don’t work for one reason or another. Deleting scenes is a complicated process because you have to go throughout your entire, yes ENTIRE manuscript and delete or alter everything around the event you’ve just deleted. For example, if you’ve deleted Aunt Edna in chapter 2 she can’t appear in subsequent chapters ranting important information necessary to the plot. Now the information has to be relayed a different way so that the rest of the story makes sense. This is just one example that makes editing a complicated and arduous task.

For those of you who pray, please remember me in your prayers.

I’ll keep you posted.

Love,

Sisi
