My new novel, Reveka's Return, is the first in a series I am considering calling The Crimson Pursuit. Here is an excerpt from the book. Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you.
Excerpt from Reveka's Return:
Pete began to feel increasingly agitated. The burning sensation in his throat intensified further and began to spread through his body. He then realized his sense of smell zeroed in on something that he craved. “What?” he muttered to himself.
“That’s one incredibly hot chick,” one of the drunken patrons whispered to his friend at the table.
Pete could hear every word as if he was sitting with them. His hearing then picked up a sound that at first he couldn’t identify. Natalie whispered in his ear, “It’s the sound of their blood coursing through their veins. Yummy.” She smiled at him
“Come on. Just pay attention…and learn,” Natalie said.
She walked over to a table behind the two men who were currently stuffing five-dollar bills in the g-string of the exotic dancer.
“There’s more where that came from. How about a lap dance, honey?” one of the men said slurring each word. The dancer looked over at the bartender who slowly nodded his head in approval.
The dancer slid off the stage and on to the drunk’s lap. She looked bored, but went along with the act. She straddled the man and gyrated on his lap to the sound of the annoying song’s rhythms.
Natalie suddenly got an idea. She stood up and walked to the other drunk who was fully enjoying watching his friend. She came up behind him and whispered something in his ear as she slowly and seductively crawled up onto his lap.
“Now you shouldn’t be missing out on some of the fun…should you?” Natalie said. The man’s jaw dropped open. The exotic dancer shot a look over to the bartender who just shrugged his shoulders.
Natalie ground her hips, gyrated to the music, and ran her fingers through the drunk’s hair. He looked up at her with an expression like he had died and gone to heaven. She looked down at him, smiled as her fangs extended, and then ripped his throat out in one blinding flash. Blood spurted from his neck and showered the other dancer. Before she could even scream, Natalie sliced her professionally manicured nails across the dancer’s throat. The other drunk went into shock.
Natalie jumped off the blood spewing drunk and in a single bound, flew across the room, and was on top of the bartender who had tried to bring up a shotgun. She ripped the gun from his hands and broke it in half. He tried to punch her. She grabbed his hand and totally ripped his arm out of the socket. Then she lunged for his neck.
All this time, Pete stood watching. The smell of the blood overcame him. It was intoxicating. He was drawn to the smell of the blood, and tried to resist.
Natalie came over to Pete. “Enjoying the heady aroma of all this blood?”
Pete stood completely motionless with a vacant look on his face. He stared at the only living being left. The exotic dancer had fallen backwards off the drunks lap. Blood covered her naked breasts and welled up into a pool next to her. The drunk stood up, turned slowly and began to walk to the door.
“Now where do you think you’re going?” asked Natalie as she shuffled over to him. She was speckled in blood. Her fangs dripped a mixture of saliva and blood. The whites of her eyes had turned to a dark crimson. Her fingers were formed into claws.
“Please…I won’t say anything,” the drunk pleaded.
She grinned and lifted one of her hands to stroke the side of his cheek. She whispered, “That’s correct you won’t say anything.”
The man shook and whimpered, “I’m sorry. Please don’t hurt me.”
“Shh…”
Natalie put his arm through his and led him over to Pete as if she were escorting him to a dance.
“Ok, handsome…let’s see those new set of choppers you have,” Natalie joked.
The blood lust finally overcame Pete; he felt his teeth elongate.
“Just rear back and sink those babies right about here and bon appetite,” Natalie said as she pointed to the drunk’s jugular vein.
The thirst inflamed and exacerbated to the point where Pete could no longer resist. He felt a growl emerge from his mouth as he lunged for the man’s throat and tore into it with a wild abandon.
Natalie stood back and enjoyed his enthusiasm. After several minutes, Pete dropped the body and wiped his mouth. His eyes were wild as he bent down to pick up the stripper. He sucked on the gapping gash on her throat, but immediately threw the body down.
“Looks like that one’s empty,” Natalie quipped. “Shall we go find us a few more…for another round of fun?”
A low, slow, throaty rumble emerged from Pete as he walked determined towards the door.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Natalie said hurrying to catch up to Pete. She slid her arm through his.
It wasn’t long before the black Miata found another bar off the beaten path.
