I received a call on Monday, May 22nd, from WSMV feature reporter Terry Bulger asking if he could come out and do a "mysterious" interview. I'm game for anything, so of course I said come on. He showed up with a cameraman Tuesday evening and explained what he wanted. Concentrating on the murder mystery angle, they turned off the lights in my office and set up a TV light behind my desk, giving an eerie look to the place as I sat at my computer and typed. Just anything, he said. They wanted the click of the keys for effect. Terry stood in the dark behind the cameraman and asked his questions about why and how I write mysteries. I have a window on my right facing the front of the house (my office is a bonus room over the garage). The photographer went outside in the dark and shot some footage of me through the window.

Terry did a great job on the feature. He took me by surprise when he said, "I want you to write something--anything--then read it back. What I came up with was, "The weather turned disturbing shortly after dark..." My wife said I should have written, "It was a dark and stormy night." At the end, co-anchor Demetria Kalodimos gave my upcoming booksigning for Deadly Illusions a plug while having fun with my use of "Opryworld" for the Opryland Hotel (something suggested by my publisher to keep the hotel from suing us over a murder I committed there).
