Here is the prologue to The Monster Bones of St. Frederick Island.

Miles away there live three children whose curious minds find them smack in the middle of adventures that seem to be just waiting for them. They are Douglas and Janet Crawford and Douglas’ best friend Wesley, who live in New York State and vacation each summer with their parents at one of the small Fire Island communities off the south shore of Long Island. But this year their vacation plans take them to a different island, St. Frederick. It makes no difference to which community they vacation, there’s never a dull moment. Their parents call them the Troublesome Trio.

Unknown to our intrepid vacationers, a long-ago group of brave and curious eighth graders on that destination island of St. Frederick formed a group of amateur detectives known as the Buccaneers of St. Frederick Island. These clever sleuths: Lily, Frank, Amelia, Leon and Ryan, known only by their code names back then, uncovered some dastardly deeds done by those who did not respect the Native American traditions of the island. But more than that, they made a discovery on one of the island’s beaches that set St. Frederick Island and the scientists who came to identify it on their heels. The mystery awaits a solution and in the pages that follow you will meet the grandchildren of the Buccaneers and be captivated by how the Troublesome Trio helps them to unravel that long-ago beach mystery.
