What did Thanksgiving mean to you this year? Did you have your loved ones over to enjoy family and fellowship?
Whatever made it special for you this year, there is no denying that it is a time to give thanks. The legacy of thanks and particularly the feast, have survived for centuries as we still gather with our family and friends on behalf of the same purpose. Thanksgiving is a good time to begin a tradition with your children that will serve them now and for years to come.
Seven yr old Alexis Delph, attends Collins Elementary in Florence. Character traits are emphasized regularly and children are recognized for demonstrating the qualities that make up good character.
As a second grade “Caring Companion” who often helps the new students especially those who are falling or learning differently. She demonstrates empathy for those who feel ashamed, disgraced or just different. She takes an extra step to approach children who are disadvantaged or disabled. Alexis has a brother who is disabled and eight years older than she. She is accepting, understanding, protective, helpful and compassionate with her brother and others she meets who seem like him. She is involved in fundraising on his behalf and mentors him from time to time. She exemplifies what we hope for our children.
