Marie and Her Friend the Sea Turtle by Nicole Weaver is a story about a little girl that rescues a sea turtle. The sea turtle gets stuck on the beach after laying its eggs. When Marie finds it, it begs for her help in getting back into the ocean. This is a trilingual story and is written in English, Spanish and French. This story teaches children to respect life. The sea turtle would have died if it could not get back in the ocean. Marie realized that she could not save the turtle alone. Her parents saw how she cared about saving the turtle’s life and helped her. There was one thing that shocked me in this story. It was when Marie told the turtle her parents would make stew out of it. I did not realize that people eat sea turtles.

My favorite thing about Marie and Her Friend the Sea Turtle is that it is written in three languages. I want my child to learn Spanish so this is a great help. The French is an added bonus. I read this book with my four-year-old. She was able to follow the story easily and enjoyed the colorful illustrations. At the end of the book is a helpful glossary of Spanish and French words. There is even a 'find the sentence' in a different language activity. Nicole Weaver did a wonderful job on this book. I love books that are written in several languages. I have seen bilingual books before, but never a trilingual one. This is a book that I will definitely recommend for kids to read. I hope that Nicole Weaver will write more books like this.
