Having accrued 10 customer reviews since the launch of my Contemporary Women's Fiction novel, AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE, I was dismayed over the removal of one out of nine 5-Star Reviews which I will preserve for all posterity. Fortunately, I had the prescience of mind to copy/paste all of my reviews in a document.
*****Real Men Read Quiche!
Alright. I admit it. I was wrong about ‘An Enlightening Quiche!’ Keep in mind I am addicted to the macho Ernest Hemingway and Norman Mailer genre of “manly literature.” I also have a tT-shirt that tells the world, “Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche!” When a friend asked me to read Ms. Pasco’s book I was reluctant. My gawd, another recipe book or a romantic love story where Fabio bursts on the scene swashbuckling the fair maiden. You know, Chick-Lit with a yoga mate and granola bars
To my utmost surprise, I found this to be a fast-paced read with plot twists mixed perfectly with a cast of characters so well defined they seem to jump off the pages and both the male and female characters are richly portrayed as they wend and wind through each other’s lives in a most literate fashion absorbing each other while the writing style draws the reader into the very battle between two women who have spent a lifetime sparring and competing. OK, think Ronda Rousey and Xena.
There is enough plaid and proud Canuck influence in “Quiche” to make my own plaid and proud Canuck roots stand up and order another Molson while I turn the page and round the corner of Ms. Pasco’s frighteningly three-dimensional descriptive style of writing.
Yes there is steamy sex romping about in ‘Quiche’ but not tawdry, cheap, sex for the sake of sex type sex. It is integral to the storyline and is written in such a fashion that draws you in. Sex as passion, sex as lust, sex as true literature.
From a historic standpoint its focus is what the region has lost...the great age of Industrial Revolution where the past has passed as a loved one. Its lifestyle, vibrancy of manufacturing, now a ghost and a fading memory is an excellent backdrop.
