Last Duel Fought in Delaware

| If you want to fight a duel that flies under the law's radar, fight it right on the line between the contested territory of two states. |
Dueling was illegal in 18 states by 1859. Long before then it had fallen out of favor in New York City, where in 1877 James Gordon Bennett and Frederick May came to blows. Bennett had broken off an engagement to May's sister Caroline, and furthermore, had dissed her in high society. Her family's honor had been soiled! Frederick May accosted Bennett in public, and Bennett responded by issuing a challenge to a duel.
They met in Delaware. The video explains why.
