Given the worldwide success of RCA Victor in succeeding decades, it’s hard for us to imagine just how fragile the situation must’ve seemed to Eldridge Johnson in 1900. He was besieged by lawsuits over patent and contractual violations on all sides. He contemplated having to declare bankruptcy. But there’s a good reason he named his new company VICTOR Talking Machines.
