1. Creative Ways to Say "Thank You" ===================================================

Thanksgiving Day comes once a year in the U.S. and Canada, but every day there are people in our lives who deserve our thanks. Sometimes a simple, "Thank you" is appropriate, and other times, it is more thoughtful to be creative in expressing appreciation. Here are some suggestions you may find helpful as you think of people at home, at work, and in the community.

1. When you say "Thank you," tell the person specifically what it is you appreciate and why you appreciate it. "Thank you for going to the Post Office for me. It saved me a lot of time."

2. Send an e-mail note--even to a group. When I was a supervisor in the Pentagon, I had an occasion to thank each person on my staff for a particular reason. I addressed the email to the entire group. The energy level in the office shot up almost immediately. Someone on the staff even forwarded the email to the general's office.

3. Send a hand-written thank you note. These are noteworthy because so few of us take time to write and mail them.

4. Place an unexpected phone call just to say "Thank you." Connecting verbally adds warmth to your appreciation even if you reach voice mail.

5. Present a small certificate. Half-page certificates take up less space if displayed and are as meaningful as full sized certificates. They tend to draw attention because they are different.

6. Give a single flower from your garden, flowerpot, or florist, with a verbal "Thank you" or a note. This is a great way to greet the hostess at a dinner or party.

7. Put a candy bar or piece of fruit on the desk of the person to be thanked, with or without a note. (Be sure the person is not on vacation!)

8. Bake some cookies. This is especially effective when men bake and present a few cookies in thanksgiving.

9. Say something nice about the recipient of your thanks when he or she can overhear you. This is especially powerful in a business setting.

10. For special occasions, present a US flag that has flown over the US Capitol. It is a unique, reasonably priced item which few people own. A certificate of authenticity is provided in honor of any special occasion you designate. Call your congressman's office and ask for it. If you don't have a local contact, call 202 224-3121 and ask for yourcongressman or congresswoman by name. When you reach that person's office, ask to purchase a flag. They'll know what to do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

2. Reward Yourself ====================================================

Most of us remember to give thanks to others and forget to appreciate ourselves. It may be difficult, but it's
essential to recognize our successes. Sure, kudos from
others are fine, but that is not the same thing.

Look for reasons to reward yourself. Then take off!
Treat yourself to a weekend getaway, even if there may be a seminar along with it. Take that exotic cruise around the Greek Isles that you've dreamed about. Ski the Matterhorn as well as the local mountains. Invite a friend to dinner. Go to a movie, the theater, or the beach. Go ahead; treat yourself!

One of my favorite treats when I lived in the Washington, DC, area was to take the train to New York City, a four-hour ride. From the train station, a person can wander quite a distance in the city without buses or taxis. The city is noisy and invigorating. I love it! I usually attended plays or musicals or visited a museum. One special Thanksgiving Day my daughter Resa joined me in New York. We shunned the Thanksgiving Day parade and headed for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We had a wonderful, unhurried time seeing the sights while the crowds were downtown. What a luxury!

What is your favorite get-away? How do you reward yourself? Once, when I brought up this subject in a seminar, the participants were surprised at the idea. Of course, rewarding yourself can be overdone; we're not talking hedonism here! All of us need encouragement from time to time, and treating ourselves to something special is a good way to get that encouragement when it is not forthcoming otherwise.

Awards, rewards, and recognition are important ways to show appreciation. However, they should never overshadow the value of the activity that leads to the achievement and subsequently, the reward. It is in the activity that we learn. It is in the activity that a kindred spirit with others develops, an espritī de corpsī. It is in the activity that people feel a sense of belonging, and bonds of friendship are formed.

A ninety-year-old multimillionaire once said to me, "Being a millionaire was never as much fun as becoming a millionaire." The thrill was in overcoming the challenges he encountered along the way. The excitement was in the risk of implementing innovative ideas. Happiness was in his interactions with people.

It is not what you get when you achieve your vision that is of utmost importance; it is what you become in the process of striving for it.

3. "The Hidden Superpowers of Your Mind" by Michael Lee ========================================================

The mind is an infinite wonder. It has the fantastic ability to transmute your desires into their physical counterparts. You can do anything that your mind can conceive, as long as you have the belief and will power to back it up.

Take the case of cancer patients who were given placebo pills. These are just plain pills that have no healing capabilities. So how did they get well? The power came from their thoughts. They were told that these pills contain the highest amounts of cancer-fighing ingredients which can effectively cure them in a matter of days.

See how powerful your mind is?

They believed that their health will be restored. They have registered in their minds that these pills will cure them of their illnesses. In the process, the belief embedded within their subconscious came to reality.

So how can you use your mind to achieve your dreams? One of the most effective ways is to use the "as if" principle. Act as if you are the person you want to be. Act as if you are already in possession of whatever you long to have.

So what do you want to be? You want to be a lawyer, doctor, athlete, or newscaster? Think, act, and feel like one. You'll be much closer to your goal if you're constantly intact with your objective. Be obsessed with your dream. It doesn't mean that if you want to be Superman you'll fly out the window. Not a good idea!

It's not enough that you act like one, but you have to actually ACT. Do what needs to be done. You might get so lost in your fantasy dream world that you've forgotten to take some action. Let your visions encourage and motivate you to actualize your purpose.

The problem with the people of the modern world is that they are too preoccupied with worries, anxieties, and negative emotions. As a result, they are adversely affecting their state of health.

White lies have become prevalent nowadays in order to ease the burdens or to persuade others to do things that they thought are unattainable.

There was once a weightlifter who couldn't lift weights in excess of 300 lbs. So his coach devised a clever idea and told him that the barbell he has to carry weighs only 300 lbs. With all his might, the weightlifter managed to put it above his head. After he puts it down, the coach told him that he has just lifted 350 lbs. Of weight! It's all in the mind!

A famous person once said, "Whenever you think you can or you can't, you're right."

If you think you are poor, then you are; unless you properly condition your thoughts to the positive mindset. I know it's hard to think rich if your environment is not conducive to such way of thinking. Use your imagination then! Visualize your house to be a mansion, your old car to be a limousine,... Well you get the picture.

There is absolutely no limit with what the mind can achieve. But you have to combine belief, will power, and action with positive thinking in order to arrive at your intended destination.
